NER Bodywork Paneling
Northeastern Electric Racing
Aug.-Dec. 2021
I was the bodywork mechanical project lead for Northeastern Electric Racing in 2021; tasked with designing and manufacturing a bodywork onto an existing chassis. It was required to adhere to all the rules and regulations of the Formula Hybrid + Electric competition, so I led a team through analyzing the rulebook and then hammering a rough prototype of a sheet metal bodywork onto the car. We iterated to sleeker, aluminum sheeting panels, which were all hand cut and bent over the frame. This design allowed us to pay some attention to the theoretical aerodynamics of the finished car and enabled us to easily work around the components it interfered with, such as the suspension and steering system. These panels were shaped successfully and used as a prototype for the competition panels used in May 2022.
