As one of my first projects in my 6-month co-op with Lutron Electronics, I was tasked with solving an issue where an out-of-spec molding vestige interfered with the product label and caused it to peel away. I ideated and modeled a solution to fix the molding process by adding a gate well, which would eliminate the vestige from the molding process. However, a cost-benefit analysis proved that a better approach was to simply redesign the product label to avoid interference with the vestige. Thus, I redesigned the label outline and contents to avoid the interference, saving $3,900 by not modifying the molding process.
